The hydrodynamic and filtration performance of the micro-channel turbulence promoter installation in the submerged flat-sheet membrane bioreactor carried out by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and filtration performance experimental. The CFD simulation results and the experimental results showed that the average fluid velocity, average gas velocity, turbulent kinetic energy, wall shear stress and gas holdup of SMBR equipped with MCTP in the vertical orientation compared with MCTP in the horizontal orientation are above 8.7%, 11.26%, 37.76%, 15.79% and 9.8%, respectively. That is to say, the enhancement effect of SMBR equipped with MCTP in the vertical orientation was better than that of SMBR equipped with MCTP in the horizontal orientation. Graphical abstract
