Role of the thioredoxin interacting protein in diabetic nephropathy and the mechanism of regulating NOD‑like receptor protein 3 inflammatory corpuscle. Int J Mol Med. 2019 Jun;43(6):2440-2450 Authors: Gu C, Liu S, Wang H, Dou H Abstract Inflammatory response serves an important role in diabetic nephropathy (DN); however, the mechanism of inflammatory response results in renal damage is not yet clear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of the thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP)/NOD‑like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) axis‑mediated activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in DN. A di...

Abstract T1R3 protein, the main subunit of the sweet taste receptor and receptor of amino acid taste, is expressed in the epithelium of the tongue and gastrointestinal tract, in β cells of the pancreas, hypothalamus, and numerous other organs. Recently, convincing evidences on the involvement of T1R3 in the control of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and the control of incretin and insulin production were obtained. In the study on Tas1r3-gene knockout mouse strain and parent C57BL/6J strain as a control, the data on the effect of T1R3 on morphological characteristics of Langerhans islets in the pancreas wer...

Conclusion: The findings of this review support the evidence that sweet cherries can be applied in pharmaceutical and food formulations, since they are able to diminish free radical species and proinflammatory markers, preventing and/ or ameliorating oxidative-stress disorders.

We present the case of a patient with diabetes showing minimal perturbations of liver function tests, but for whom a simple blood fibrosis test suggested the presence of advanced liver fibrosis. The patient was referred to a hepatologist who confirmed the diagnosis using a specialized blood test and transient elastography. Thereafter, a liver biopsy was performed and pathology was positive for cirrhosis. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed no gastrointestinal varices. Simple blood fibrosis tests are very attractive for the first-line evaluation of liver fibrosis by non-specialists in the large populations of NAFLD a...

In this study, we demonstrated that metformin could inhibit the RA-FLS proliferation in dose- and time-dependent manner. Our cell viability MTT test and 5-ethynyl-2-deoxyuridine incorporation assay showed that metformin inhibited the RA-FLSs proliferation with a time- and concentration-dependent increase. More importantly, metformin induced G2/M cell cycle phase arrest in RA-FLS via the IGF-IR/PI3K/AKT/ m-TOR pathway and inhibited m-TOR phosphorylation through both the IGF-IR/PI3K/AKT signaling pathways thereby further upregulating and down-regulating p70s6k and 4E-BP1 phosphorylation, respectively; however, metformin was ...

Publication date: July 2019Source: Biomedicine &Pharmacotherapy, Volume 115Author(s): Shuo Wang, Yi Zhou, Yue Zhang, Xingyu He, Xiangning Zhao, Hairong Zhao, Wei LiuAbstractTubulointerstitial fibrosis is the hallmark of diabetic nephropathy, which is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide. Roscovitine, an inhibitor of Cdks, exhibits anti-fibrosis effects. The present study was aimed to explore the protected role of roscovitine from renal fibrosis of diabetic nephropathy. In vivo study showed that roscovitine treatment significantly ameliorated renal functional and histological injuries in diabetic mice....
