Change in physical activity level and clinical outcomes in older adults with knee pain: a secondary analysis from a randomised controlled trial

Exercise interventions improve clinical outcomes of pain and function in adults with knee pain due to osteoarthritis and higher levels of physical activity are associated with lower severity of pain and higher...

This article investigates the clinical, functional, and radiographic outcomes in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction patients over 7 years to determine the effects of initial graft tension on outcomes when using patellar tendon (bone–tendon–bone [BTB]) and hamstring tendon (HS) autografts. Ninety patients, reconstructed with BTB or HS, were randomized using two initial graft tension protocols: (1) normal anteroposterior (AP) laxity (“low-tension”; n = 46) and (2) AP laxity overconstrained by 2 mm (“high-tension”; n = 44). Seventy-two patient...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to evaluate recent advancements in regenerative medicine modalities in the treatment of the most common spinal disorders.Recent FindingsImmunomodulatory and trophic effects of the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and growth factors have been studied in the treatment of symptomatic degenerative spine disorders including degenerative disc disease and facet joint arthropathy. Gene therapy and exosomes are investigated as a future generation of biologics with gene therapy most advanced in the treatment of osteoarthritis.SummaryWhile current studie...

l V. Vitiello Wrist actigraphy has been used to assess sleep in older adult populations for nearly half a century. Over the years, the continuous raw activity data derived from actigraphy has been used for the characterization of factors beyond sleep/wake such as physical activity patterns and circadian rhythms. Behavioral activity rhythms (BAR) are useful to describe individual daily behavioral patterns beyond sleep and wake, which represent important and meaningful clinical outcomes. This paper reviews common rhythmometric approaches and summarizes the available data from the use of these different approaches in olde...

Conclusion. This large systematic review of over 11,000 participants demonstrates that topical diclofenac is effective for acute pain, such as sprains and strains, with minimal AEs. The effectiveness of topical diclofenac was also demonstrated in chronic musculoskeletal pain, such as osteoarthritis, but with a higher NNT (worse) compared with acute pain. Again, the incidence of AEs was low. Formulation does play a part in effectiveness, and studies are needed to investigate this further. Studies of chronic pain outside of osteoarthritis would also be helpful. PMID: 31944135 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Link N suppresses interleukin-1β-induced biological effects on human osteoarthritic cartilage. Eur Cell Mater. 2020 Jan 15;39:65-76 Authors: Alaqeel M, Grant MP, Epure LM, Salem O, AlShaer A, Huk OL, Bergeron SG, Zukor DJ, Kc R, Im HJ, Anbazhagan AN, Antoniou J, Mwale F Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease of diarthrodial joints associated with extracellular matrix proteolytic degradation under inflammatory conditions, pain and disability. Currently, there is no therapy to prevent, reverse or modulate the disease course. The present study aimed at evaluating the regenerative potential of Link...
