This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of subsection laminectomy with pedicle screw fixation (SLPF) for the treatment of ossification of the ligamentum flavum of the thoracic spine. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty patients (age, 40-71 years) with ossification of the ligamentum flavum of the thoracic spine underwent SLPF (13 men, 17 women). Operative time, intraoperative blood loss, preoperative and postoperative change in thoracic kyphosis, and perioperative complications were recorded. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score for severity of myelopathy and the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) motor and...

Authors: Xin WQ, Gao YL, Shen J, Yang XY Abstract Aim: We performed a meta-analysis to systematically assess the efficacy and safety of intravenous tranexamic acid in revision total hip arthroplasty. Method: Potential academic articles were identified from Cochrane Library, Medline, PubMed, EMBASE, ScienceDirect and other databases. The time range we retrieved from was that from the inception of electronic databases to February 2019. Gray studies were identified from the references of included literature reports. STATA version 11.0 was used to analyze the pooled data. Results: A total of eight articles were involve...

Nonuniform contrast opacification of vasculature is frequently encountered on thoracic computed tomographic angiography. The purpose of this pictorial essay is to discuss the appearance of, and factors underlying mixing artifacts, which we term “smoke.” We provide an approach to distinguish it from pathology including pulmonary embolism, aortic dissection, and thrombus. Smoke results from a combination of technical factors, abnormal physiology, or inflow of unopacified blood. Smoke produces ill-defined filling defects that may be confidently diagnosed in many cases if these fundamentals are applied.

In this study, biogenic lanthanum (La) nanoparticles were synthesized through ecofriendly green chemistry methodology. Mutingia calabura leaf extract was used for the synthesis of La nanoparticles. The synthesized La nanoparticles were characterized using FTIR, SEM and EDAX. Further, the nanoparticles were analysed for antibacterial activity, bacterial toxicity, antioxidant activity, blood compatibility and dye degradation efficiency. Well diffusion technique was used to study the antibacterial activity and antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH assay. Photocatalytic dye degradation study was carried out with Coomas...

Implantable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has dramatically improved the prognosis of patients with advanced heart failure.1 With ongoing technological innovation, patient survival and quality of life are further improving,2,3 and major complications related to LVAD such as pump thrombosis and stroke have decreased3; however, these complications have not been completely overcome. Infection remains a major complication in up to 60% of VAD patients and worsens prognosis and quality of life.

This study was conducted to clarify CV and bleeding events in Japanese aspirin users with a history of CV diseases. This study was a prospective, nationwide, multicenter cooperative registry of Japanese patients with CV diseases at risk of thromboembolism who were taking aspirin (75–325 mg) for at least 1 year. We observed major CV and bleeding events during follow-up. Patients with history of ischemic stroke (IS), transient ischemic attack (TIA), coronary artery disease (CAD), atrial fibrillation (AF), and venous thromboembolism (VTE) were included and analyzed in this sutdy. CV events included IS, TIA, CA...
