Could a Paper-Based Diagnostic Deliver Rapid, Point-of-Care Test Results?

Group K Diagnostics has taken the “Best of the Best” spot at Mid-Atlantic Bio Angels’s (MABA) 1st Pitch Life Science event in December. The company is developing the MultiDiagnostic, a low-cost, point-of-care test using paper-based microfluidics. About 20 minutes or so after adding a test sample to the card, users would take a picture and upload it to a smartphone app or use a printed visual comparison chart to read the results, the company reports on its Web site. An initial diagnostic system would test liver function, and twelve more tests are in production, with over 60 in the pipeline, it was reported in a news release on the 1st Pitch award. “As you can see from the picture [above], we can increase the amount of tests run by adding additional cards up to 10 cards,” Brianna Wronko, CEO/Founder of Group K, told MD+DI. “There are three tests on each card. The picture shows two cards (6 tests).
