Effect of method of anesthesia on the reproductive and obstetric outcomes of heterotopic pregnancies

Heterotopic pregnancy (HP) is defined as the simultaneous occurrence of intrauterine and extrauterine ectopic pregnancies. It is a rare condition with an incidence of 1:2600 –15,600.1 Heterotopic pregnancy due to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) was first reported in 1985,2 but with its greater use the incidence of heterotopic pregnancy in ART-treated patients has increased to 1:100.1,3,4 Although the etiology of HP is unclear, pelvic inflammatory disease, pre vious tubal surgery, ovarian stimulation and ART manipulation are considered to be risk factors.
