Authors: Noguchi T, Nakao K, Asaumi Y, Morita Y, Otsuka F, Kataoka Y, Hosoda H, Miura H, Fukuda T, Yasuda S Abstract Early identification of high-risk or vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques prone to rupture and performing preemptive therapy prior to catastrophic cardiovascular events are optimal goals of plaque imaging. Despite the advances in imaging modalities to identify vulnerable characteristics, the predictive value of the imaging techniques in the clinical setting is still developing. In this regard, reliable and high-sensitive imaging modalities identifying vulnerable plaque characters that may lead to futur...

CONCLUSIONS: Among ischemic stroke patients, higher omentin-1 levels were inversely associated with carotid plaque instability, but not associated with moderate-severe carotid stenosis or occlusion. Omentin-1 may represent a biomarker for predicting carotid plaque instability of acute ischemic stroke patients. PMID: 29225325 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: Cilnidipine promoted the regression of common carotid IMT in post-stroke hypertensive patients, especially in the thick group. Cilnidipine also reduced the IAD in both normal and thick groups. PMID: 29225324 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study sought to evaluate the performance of 3 cancer-specific (RIETE, POMPE-C, and Font criteria) and 3 generic (Hestia, Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index [PESI], and Geneva prognostic score [GPS]) risk stratification tools for predicting 30-day post-PE mortality in patients with active cancer. Methods: We identified consecutive, adult, objectively confirmed patients with PE and active cancer presenting to our institution from November 2010 to January 2014. We calculated the proportion of patients categorized as low or high risk by each of the 6 risk stratification tools and determined each tools' accuracy for predict...

Conclusion: Convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage may be related to a wide spectrum of etiologies. In our patients, an increased prevalence of cerebral vein thrombosis was observed. Abstract The term 'economy class syndrome' refers to the occurrence of thrombotic events during long-haul flights that mainly occur in passengers in the economy class of the aircraft. This syndrome results from several factors related to the aircraft cabin (immobilization, hypobaric hypoxia and low humidity) and the passenger (body mass index, thrombophilia, oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy, cancer), acting together to predispose to excessive blood coagulation, which can result in venous thromboembolism. Several risk factors, both genetic and acquired, are associated with venous thromboembolism. The most ...
