108 The role of permanent pacing following cardiac surgery. Appropriateness and timing of implants: a large tertiary single centre experience.

Introduction: Managing post-operative cardiac patients with bradyarrhythmias for permanent pacing provides a clinical challenge when considering optimum timing for patient safety and potential delayed discharges. Although some guidelines are available, permanent pacemakers (PPM) following cardiac surgery are a heterogeneous group and European Society of Cardiology recommendations include prolonged observation for up to 7 days in high degree AV block (AVB) or 5 days to weeks in sinus node dysfunction. We aimed to evaluate our current practice in the UK ’s largest heart centre, the Barts Heart Centre.
