Instead of the usual fighting on here (which hey; is a lot of fun sometimes), I figure we could actually come together and cooperate on a thought project. The southeast just got hit by two epic hurricanes. We all know that. I gotta admit; my "preparation" was a bit lax. In 1-2 days time, I managed to round up all the food/water/gear that my wife and I would need for 3-4 days and put it in a big ol' tuffbox and load it into the car in case we got the order to evacuate. Abstract Inhibitors of the cyclooxygenases (COXs), the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), relieve inflammatory pain, but are associated with gastrointestinal and cardiovascular complications. Given the widespread use of NSAIDs, there has been a longstanding interest in optimizing their risk-benefit ratio, for example by reducing their gastrointestinal risk. More recently, the focus has shifted toward the cardiovascular complications of NSAIDs and very large prospective studies have been performed to compare cardiovascular risk across distinct NSAIDs. Surprisingly, much less attention has been paid to th...

Authors: Mockenhaupt M Abstract Among severe drug reactions in children, besides Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), a specific form of hypersensitivity syndrome which is nowadays known as "drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms" (DRESS) has to be mentioned. Whereas SJS/TEN is considered one reaction entity of different severity, DRESS has to be distinguished from SJS/TEN but also from other severe exanthems due to multiorgan involvement. Although SJS/TEN is generally referred to as a drug reaction, only about 75% of all cases are actually caused by med...

CONCLUSIONS: Bulging is a common sequela after flank incision. The rate of incisional hernia after flank incision is comparable to rates after other forms of abdominal surgery. Further studies are required to evaluate the psychological and physiological effects of bulging, the pain and weakness caused, and the cosmetic embarrassment suffered by the patient.
