We report the presence of a giant aneurysm of the right coronary artery and giant ectasia of the left coronary system with active thrombosis in a man with history of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, with endovascular treatment and a non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction with no reperfusion strategy, who required a coronary computed tomography, identifying the anatomical characteristics of this disease. CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic prosthetic wrapping of vascular anastomosis in patients with Behçet's AAA in resource-challenged settings, where the proximal anastomoses were all end-to- end with wrapping, is an affordable, simple, reliable, and feasible technique, and commonly associated with a lower incidence of anastomotic site false aneurysms and different complications related to the implanted graft, where endovascular procedures might not be applicable. Moreover, the proper preoperative medical preparation for controlling the activity of Behçet's disease, with the administration of immunosuppressive agents, f...

Abstract BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to examine the value preoperative AT as predictor of postoperative survival in patients who underwent elective EVAR for repair of asymptomatic AAA. METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent elective EVAR between 2008 and 2018 were analysed. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing was performed. Perioperative/30 day mortality was compared between patients who had AT ≥8 ml kg-1 min-1 and those with AT

Authors: Butcovan D, Mocanu V, Haliga RE, Ioan BG, Danciu M, Tinica G Abstract The present study aimed to analyze the histological characteristics of surgical thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) specimens on the basis of the most recent consensus documents on non-inflammatory and inflammatory lesions. The current study also aimed to establish an association with various risk factors. Aortic wall specimens were collected from 52 patients (38 men and 14 women; age, 19-80 years) undergoing surgery for aortic dilatation at The Cardiovascular Disease Institute (Iasi, Romania). For histolog...

Authors: Rašiová M, Farkašová Ľ, Koščo M, Moščovič M, Špak Ľ, Petrášová D, Tkáč I Abstract BACKGROUND: The identification of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) biomarker offers a perspective to determine disease progress and rupture risk. The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between selected circulating biomarkers and diameter of abdominal aorta. METHODS: One hundred and two patients (88 men and 14 women) with mean age 70.0 ± 8.7 years were included in a single center cross-sectional study conducted between Fe...

METHODS: Multicenter, retrospective cohort study of patients diagnosed with AAA and treated with open surgical repair (OSR) or endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). We evaluated clinical and demographic variables, includin...

Authors: Starck J, Aaltonen HL, Björses K, Lundgren F, Gottsäter A, Sonesson B, Holst J Abstract BACKGROUND: Screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in elderly men reduces aneurysm related mortality. AAA is commonly defined as an infrarenal aortic diameter (IAD) of ≥30 mm, which is based on the definition of an arterial aneurysm as a focal dilation of 150% or more compared to the expected diameter of about 20 mm. The IAD have been shown to correlate to body surface area (BSA). The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility to use an individualized AAA-criteria by using a BSA-based model...
