This study aimed to investigate the pathogenesis and molecular mechanism of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in severely monocrotophos-poisoned rabbits. METHODS: Chinchilla rabbits were used to build the monocrotophos-poisoned animal model via subcutaneous abdominal injection. Acetylcholinesterase activity was determined using the dithiobisnitrobenzoic acid enzyme kinetics method, and the free organophosphorus (FOP) toxic substances content was analyzed using the enzyme inhibition method. The contents of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin 1-β (IL-β) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2) in the pl...

AbstractAspergillus clavatus poisoning is a neuromycotoxicosis of ruminants that occurs sporadically across the world after ingestion of infected feedstuffs. Although various toxic metabolites are synthesized by the fungus, it is not clear which specific or group of mycotoxins induces the syndrome.A. clavatus isolates were deposited in the culture collection of the Biosystematics Division, Plant Protection Research Institute, Agricultural Research Council during incidences of livestock poisoning (1988 –2016). Six isolates were still viable and these plus three other South African isolates that were also previously de...

We described these incidences in terms of an iceberg model of self-harm. Findings During 2011–13, 171 adolescents aged 12–17 years died by suicide in England (119 [70%] male and 133 [78%] aged 15–17 years) and 1320 adolescents presented to the study hospitals following non-fatal self-harm (1028 [78%] female and 977 [74%] aged 15–17 years). In 2015, 322 (6%) of 5506 adolescents surveyed reported self-harm in the past year in the community (250 [78%] female and 164 [51%] aged 15–17 years). In 12–14 year olds, for every boy who died by suicide, 109 attended hospital following self-harm and ...

Conclusions This study offers some support for greater average improvement in reactions to tinnitus with TM or NS devices compared to the BSG device. The TM group, compared to the BSG and NS groups, showed a greater reduction in ratings of tinnitus loudness on the NRS on average.Supplemental Materialhttps://doi.org/10.23641/asha.5545759

Conclusion Those involved in the management of patients with tinnitus and/or hyperacusis should use a wide range of instruments to assess the full impact of tinnitus on a patient's life and should be prepared to refer a patient for treatment for depression, especially when the patient has anxiety, hyperacusis, and/or insomnia.

This report represents the first occupational case of lead poisoning in firing ranges in Korea, and this necessitates institutional management to prevent the recurrence of poisoning through this route. Workplace environmental monitoring should be implemented for indoor firing ranges, and the workers should undergo regularly scheduled special health examinations. In clinical practice, it is essential to question the patient about his occupational history. PMID: 28875619 [PubMed - in process]
