A patient affected by a voluminous synovial sarcoma of mediastinum received radical surgery, resulting in injury of both phrenic nerves. Because of the cancer location, reconstruction of the left phrenic nerve was not possible, so to prevent the patient's ventilator dependence, the right phrenic nerve was reconstructed via an autograft from the residual proximal stump of the contralateral one. In 3 months, the right hemidiaphragm function showed a full recovery, documented by ultrasonographic and radiographic assessment of diaphragmatic excursion, and the patient was weaned from mechanical ventilation. When a nerve autogra...

CONCLUSIONS: Targeted gene panels like MSK-IMPACT may accurately report HLA type and identify loss of somatic HLA alleles. In a multivariable model, HLA-A*02-eligibility was not significantly associated with OS in patients with metastatic SS. PMID: 32816945 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract EpCAM is a transmembrane glycoprotein typically overexpressed in cancer of epithelial origin and mainly involved in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumor cells that spread and disseminate. Strategies for the targeting and capture of EpCAM-expressing tumor cells are showing promise in cancers prone to metastatize, both as diagnostic tools and potential therapies. Sarcomas are among the most aggressive tumors in children, with a common mesenchymal origin that comprises both soft tissue sarcomas (STS) and bone sarcomas. The aim of this study was to assess EpCAM expression in pediatric sarco...

Cyclin-Dependent Kinases (CDKs) are well-known reliable targets for cancer treatment being often deregulated. Among them, since the transcription-associated CDK9 represents the sentry of cell transcriptional homeostasis, it can be a valuable target for managing cancers in which the transcriptional machinery is dysregulated by tumor-driver oncogenes. Here we give an overview of some natural compounds identified as CDK inhibitors with reported activity also against CDK9, that were taken as a model for the development of highly active synthetic anti-CDK9 agents. After, we summarize the data on CDK9 inhibition in a group of ra...

We find that this region is necessary and sufficient for nucleosome binding, mSWI/SNF (BAF) chromatin remodeling complex targeting, catalytic activity, and activation of cancer-specific gene expression. Moreover, we identify PRC1-mediated H2AUb119 as a further rheostat governing fur...

Background: Sarcomas are rare malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin. The discovery of circulating biomarkers with high diagnostic value could supplement diagnosis of this heterogenous group of tumors. The aim of this study was to identify the profiles of circulating miRNA (c-miRNAs) in four groups of common bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Methods: At the time of diagnosis, blood samples were collected from 86 patients: 36 with locally advanced/unresectable/metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) who received first-line treatment with imatinib; 16 with locally advanced osteosarcoma (OS); 26 with locally advanced syn...
