Molecular Monitoring in the Treatment Free Remission Era

Molecular monitoring by of peripheral blood samples by serial quantification of BCR-ABL1 mRNA levels is an important therapeutic indicator for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and is incorporated into both NCCN guidelines and ELN recommendations for patient management.1,2 Results are expressed on the International Scale (IS) for BCR-ABL1 mRNA measurement, access to which requires the derivation of laboratory-specific conversion factors (CFs) following sample exchange with a reference laboratory or the use of IS kits, systems or calibration reagents.
