Importance of Light in the Treatment of Vitiligo with JAK-inhibitors.

Importance of Light in the Treatment of Vitiligo with JAK-inhibitors. J Dermatolog Treat. 2017 Jun 05;:1-8 Authors: Joshipura D, Plotnikova N, Goldminz A, Deverapalli S, Turkowski Y, Gottlieb A, Rosmarin D Abstract Vitiligo is an autoimmune pigmentary disorder characterized by depigmented patches of skin with a selective loss of melanocytes. Recent advances describe vitiligo as a T-helper (Th1) cell-mediated disease with elevated levels of IFN-γ and its associated chemokines CXCL9 and CXCL10 responsible for depigmentation. The Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors have shown promise for the treatment of vitiligo with improved response in the sun-exposed areas. We propose viewing the treatment of vitiligo as a two-step process where the first part involves suppressing the immune system, followed by stimulation of the melanocytes to repigment the affected areas. We emphasize the importance of light in the treatment of vitiligo by JAK-inhibitors. PMID: 28581823 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
