Opening remarks at the Ebola vaccines for Guinea and the world event

4 May 2017 – At an event held in Conakry, Guinea, Dr Margaret Chan thanked the presidents of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone for supporting the development of a new Ebola vaccine which provides substantial protection against this highly lethal disease. The close collaboration of Guinea’s national authori ties was a catalysing factors in successful implementation of the WHO vaccine trial. Dr Chan also described several spillover initiatives that are leaving the world better prepared for the next inevitable Ebola outbreak.
