Fungal laryngitis in asthmatic boy treated with inhalatory corticosteroids: A case report
This report describes the case of a 12-year-old boy with chronic bronchial asthma receiving prolonged inhaled corticosteroids presented with progressive hoarseness of voice. Patient had undergone microlaryngeal surgery with stripping of the vocal cords. Histopathology demonstrated hyperplastic ulcerative squamous epithelium with fungal hyphae and confirmed as Aspergillus. This is an extremely rare side effect of prolonged inhalation of corticosteroids in a pediatric patient.
