SCA Academy Orientation Week- NPS Alaska Region

The objective of this Task Agreement is to support and stimulate work and/or education and training opportunities for young adults through collaborative participation in the NPS SCA Academy. The Purpose of the academy is to provide college students from diverse backgrounds with an introduction to the National Park Service and the various employment opportunities within the service. The program will begin to build a pathway designed to lead students to a career with the NPS and/or will assist in creating the next generation of conservation stewards. RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT Students that attend the SCA Academy will be provided an orientation not only to Kenai Fjords, but also parks across the service and receive an introduction to the history of the National Park Service. Through experiential opportunities they will be exposed to a variety of career opportunities in the NPS. The week – long program will also include leadership skills development, and introduction to mentoring, a service component, and a variety of recreational opportunities, In addition, students will be able to work alongside park staff, as well as staff members from other “participating” parks. This orientation week is the foundation for summer long internships that will provide real work experience and provide work skills development, an immersion experience with NPS and an opportunity to work in NPS related career fields.
