Prostate Cancer Specialists on Minimally Invasive Surgery

Dr. Steven Savage, a urologist, talks about different types of minimally invasive surgery that can be used for prostate cancer, the benefits of minimally invasive surgery and how it is better than open surgery. As one of MUSC's prostate cancer specialists, Dr. Savage talks specifically about laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, a less-invasive type of radical prostatectomy in which the prostate gland is removed using a laparoscope (a long, flexible lighted tube with a video camera attached) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) a surgery to remove part of the prostate gland that surrounds the urethra by using a small tool that is placed inside the prostate through the urethra.
