Type 2 diabetes mellitus and the elderly: an update on drugs used to treat glycaemia.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus and the elderly: an update on drugs used to treat glycaemia. Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2016 Aug 22; Authors: Mitrakou A, Katsiki N, Lalic NM Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications are more prevalent in the elderly. As the general population worldwide is ageing, effective and safe treatment of older T2DM patients is becoming more important in clinical practice. Elderly T2DM patients should be carefully evaluated for functional, mental, geriatric and medical disorders before the initiation of antidiabetic drug therapy and regularly monitored thereafter. Treatment strategy and goals should be individualized based on patient co-morbidities and drug pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. This narrative review discusses the use of antidiabetic drugs in the elderly T2DM population. PMID: 27550054 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: The higher prevalence of elevated FG and/or T2DM among Roma does not seem to be directly linked to their increased genetic load but rather to their environmental/cultural attributes. Interventions targeting T2DM prevention among Roma should focus on harmful environmental exposures related to their unhealthy lifestyle.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and associated ailments are leading economic burdens to society. Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are recent antidiabetic medications with beneficial clinical efficacy. This meta-analysis was conducted to quantitatively pool the incremental net benefit of SGLT2 inhibitors in T2DM patients who failed metformin monotherapy.

AbstractType 2 diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) is an endocrine metabolic disorder, occurring worldwide due to aging, advancement in lifestyle by modernization. T2DM is characterized by higher levels of glucose in the blood due to unresponsive secretion of pancreatic insulin and insulin activity or altogether. T2DM, regarded as a powerful genetic susceptible disease that leads to high risk with insulin resistance and β‐cell dysfunction. To manage and overcome type 2 diabetes, physical activity, diet strategies, and other therapeutic medications along with usage of anti‐glycemic agents are developed and attempted ap...

We report a case of a 36-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus and a one-year of primary infertility. Following oral ovulation induction cycles and IUI, diagnosis of heterotopic cervical pregnancy was made by ultrasonography at 7.4 weeks of gestation. Laser ablation of the cervical pregnancy was performed achieving adequate homeostasis at the implantation site and preserving the intrauterine pregnancy. A healthy infant was delivered at 36 0/7 wks by cesarean-section.Laser ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that appears to lead to successful outcomes in treatment of heterotopic cervical pregnancy.
