Uterine fibroids (leiomyoma) are benign monoclonal neoplasms of the myometrium and represent the most common tumors in women worldwide. Tumors occur in ∼77% of women overall and are clinically manifest in ∼25% by age 45 years. Although benign, these tumors are nonetheless associated with significant morbidity; they are the primary indication for hysterectomy, and a major source of gynecologic and reproductive dysfunction, ranging from profuse m enstrual bleeding and pelvic pain to infertility, recurrent miscarriage, and preterm labor.

AbstractUlcerative colitis (UC) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by inflammation of the large intestine, rectal bleeding, and abdominal pain. It can be alleviated by certain bioactive compounds, including α-linolenic acid (ALA), which is a bioactive component in fermented black radish (Raphanus sativus L. var.niger). The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of ALA in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced UC in mice. UC was induced in C57BL/6 mice by allowing them to freely drink water containing 2.5% DSS for 7  days, followed by oral administration of ALA (30 and 60...

We reported 10 ASA I –II patients admitted for elective primary THA, receiving LIA during (5) and at the end of surgery (5). For the PENG block we used a single injection of 40 ml levobupivacaine 0.25% and dexamethasone 4 mg. For LIA, a mixture of 0.25% levobupivacaine, ketorolac, epinephrine, and morphine was injec ted into periarticular tissues. The pain intensity was evaluated with a numeric rating scale. All patients were fully satisfied and improvement in pain relief, symptoms, and functional activity was remarkable. Intraoperative blood losses ranged 100–600 ml. No intraoperative complicati...

Conclusion Complete removal of the axillary scar tissue after breast cancer treatment and re-augmentation of the axilla with a turnover flap results in a reduction in ipsilateral lymphedema and an improvement in pain and quality of life. We interpret these findings as a result of the physiological re-alignment of the lymphatic vessels combined with a lymph node-containing local transposition flap. Therefore, re-augmentation with a turnover flap could be an effective non-microsurgical alternative to lymph node transplantation. PMID: 32435069 [PubMed]

CONCLUSIONS: All tourniquets tested were effective and swift to apply. The Tourni-key's antipinch card seems helpful in reducing local pain under the windlass. Reinspection for rebleeding is important and should be routinely performed irrespective of the device. The width of the SWAT-T may be beneficial, thereby, reducing the risk of crush injury. Conclusions and significance: All hot tonsillectomy techniques should be avoided as they are related to a higher risk for postoperative bleeding. The high rate of postoperative contacts due to pain after tonsillectomy indicates a need for improvement in pain management. The declining rates of symptom relief must be investigated further.
