Study: Aggressive early breast cancer treatments may not help survival
Lumpectomies and subsequent radiation in early breast cancer cases appear to have little effect on long-term survival rates for patients, according to a new study by the journal JAMA Oncology.
The Washington Post reports that the study tracked more than 100,000 women. Those who had a lumpectomy and radiation after the discovery of early cancer lesions — a noninvasive cancer called Stage 0 — did not see higher survival rates even though the aggressive treatment diminished the odds of the cancer…
