Indocyanine green angiography aids in prediction of limb salvage in vascular trauma

In cases of severe vascular trauma, traditional means for initial vascular assessment include bedside Doppler with ankle brachial indices (ABI) and validation with arteriography. Furthermore the development of the Mangled Extremity Severity Score (MESS) assessment and more recently Lower Extremity Assessment Project (LEAP) are variations that attempt to stratify clinical variable, such as extent of skeletal/soft tissue injury, limb ischemia, shock and patient age with limb salvage outcome.1,2 While these later methods help to stratify the utility of the limb salvage and other functional outcome, they do have limited application and allow for no use in immediate assessment.
