36 Summary of data for CT-guided percutaneous lung biopsy from West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance in 2021

CT-guided lung biopsy (CTGLB) is a common procedure in diagnosing lung cancer. According to British Thoracic Society (BTS), CTGLB has significantly resulted in reduction of unnecessary surgery. BTS estimated that 64% of patients who had undergone the biopsy had a malignant diagnosis. The most common complication from the procedure is pneumothorax (15%), 6.6% resulting in chest drain insertion. Some other rare complications include haemorrhage (1%), air embolism (0.4%) and death (0.16%). The National Lung Cancer Audit (NLCA) recommends that>90% of patients with stage I and II disease with performance status of 0 to 1 should have a pathological diagnosis prior to treatment.
