44 Bronchoscopy for peripheral lung lesions in patients deemed unsuitable for transthoracic needle biopsy: experience of introducing cone beam imaging
Distinguishing a benign nodule from an early lung cancer remains an important clinical problem. The current standard of care, CT-biopsy, while accurate is associated with high-rates of complications and limitations of what can be biopsied. This has prompted the development of endoscopic approaches, but multimodal technologies have not shown improvements in diagnostic accuracy, largely due to lack of real-time imaging. Cone-beam CT (CBCT) imaging uses a flat panel detector for cone-shaped x-ray beams that are reconstructed into 3D images.
