Response Regarding: Clinical Implication to Predict New-Onset Atrial Fibrillation After Cardiac Surgery. Kataoka N, Imamura T

We would like to thank Drs Kataoka and Imamura for their thoughtful comments in response to our publication examining risk factors for postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after cardiac surgery.1 This ancillary observational study was part of a randomized trial evaluating the comparative effectiveness of rhythm versus rate control for new-onset POAF in patients undergoing coronary or valve surgery. A total of 2104 patients, without any prior history of atrial fibrillation, were enrolled before surgery, and randomized if they developed POAF while hospitalized.
