Asymptomatic carotid stenosis.

Analysis of the optimal form of therapy to reduce stroke for patients with carotid artery stenosis has proven difficult over the last decade with the continuous introduction of new forms of medical and surgical endovascular treatments. The rationale in selecting the most appropriate therapy is based often on the results of prospective randomized studies performed in academic centers. The results of multicenter prospective randomized studies depend on inclusion criteria, and patients with lower income, low educational attainment, and not registered less fortunate people, who conceptually are at higher risk from ischemic stroke, are rarely included because they are difficult to follow for a long period.
