Specific IgE point-of-care testing is evolving

There was a time when an Allergist, often with the collaboration of a local botanical specialist, would venture into his/her local woods and fields collecting pollen from local trees and weeds. Gradually, using percutaneous testing with solutions made from this collected pollen, allergists became aware of plants most likely to cause allergic symptoms. This testing was very specific for local flora. The article by Davies et al1 in this issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma& Immunology begins to move back toward local testing, but using novel methods.
