Syncope and Vaccinations: A Needed Step Forward

When counseling families on vaccination, providers need to be able to fully discuss the relevant risks and benefits of vaccination. Syncope is associated with vaccination in adolescents [1], but the true incidence and how it relates to other medical procedures are yet unknown. Although vaso-vagal syncope may not be considered a serious condition by healthcare providers [2], it can be alarming to patients and their families [3]. Rarely, vasovagal syncope can result in serious injuries, including death, as seen recently in France [4].
