Theoretical Investigation of Surface Plasmon Polariton Propagation in Grating Nanostructure with Perturbation Approach

AbstractIn this paper, theoretical investigation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) in nanostructure is performed with perturbation approach, using example of grating. Dispersion relation of SPP in grating is deduced with forbidden bandwidths calculated. And moreover, the transmission attenuation of two SPP modes is also investigated with analytical solutions provided at last. This investigation can not only give an understanding about the physical origin of the band gaps and attenuation difference in grating situation, but also provide information for grating fabrication based on required dispersion relation and transmission attenuation. Both simulation and experiment results are compared with our model to verify its feasibility.
