The value of proactive management of food allergy
We are entering a new era in food allergy prevention and treatment. With shifting guidelines around timing of allergen introduction and approved oral immunotherapies, the food allergy management paradigm is also changing.1 Patients with food allergy used to be universally given the advice to strictly avoid trigger foods, always carry epinephrine with them, and go to the emergency department after administering epinephrine. The recent advances and new therapies on the horizon bring nuance to this passive food allergy management approach and call for a more proactive one.
