Can Locking plate fixation and Free Vascularised Fibular Transfer with Skin Island achieve Good Functional Outcome in the Treatment of Large Bone Defects of Tibia ? A Study of 26 Cases

Bone loss in long bones can occur primarily during the initial injury or as a result of debridement when loosely attached comminuted bony fragments without soft tissue attachment are removed. Secondary bone loss arises when avascular and necrotic exposed bone segments are excised due to posttraumatic osteomyelitis [1]. Alongside bone loss, challenges are posed by soft tissue loss or scarred and contracted soft tissues [2]. Various treatment options are available in the literature [3 –6].
