Right Ventricular –Pulmonary Arterial Coupling and All-Cause Mortality in Patients with Mitral Annular Calcification–Related Mitral Valve Dysfunction

Mitral annular calcification (MAC) is an increasingly recognized cause of mitral valve (MV) dysfunction.1 However, there remains no established consensus on assessment of its severity, which renders risk stratification and patient selection for MV intervention challenging. Given that MV dysfunction can result in right ventricular (RV) failure over time, measures of RV –pulmonary arterial (RV-PA) coupling—which evaluate RV contractility indexed to its afterload2—may aid in risk stratification.
