Translational research – The importance of adaptation and resilience for coping with the stress of chronic conditions in children

Resilience is important as a protective factor for coping with the stress associated with chronic conditions in children. When children are diagnosed with a chronic condition, their lives are forever changed. Having a child with a chronic condition is inherently stressful for parents and families. For children with chronic conditions to thrive, parents must learn to adapt to the demands of the chronic condition and how to incorporate chronic condition management into their lives (Christian, 2010, 2016a, 2016b, 2023).
