Visual Diagnosis: Hematocolpometra Diagnosed with Point-of-Care Ultrasound in a Pediatric Patient with Right Lower Quadrant Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain is a common pediatric complaint with most cases being benign and self-limiting. Appendicitis is the most common surgical cause of acute abdominal pain in these patients, often presenting with the classic combination of generalized abdominal pain moving to the right lower quadrant, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, or fever. 1 When evaluating female pediatric patients, gynecologic causes of abdominal pain must also be considered and can often mimic acute appendicitis.1 Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can be used to differentiate common causes of abdominal and pelvic pathology rapidly and accurately in patients presenting with abdominal pain.
