Evaluation of pre-hospital cannabis exposure and hospital opioid utilization in a trauma population: A retrospective cohort

Cannabis is a widely accessible and consumed substance with increasing availability. Across the United States (US), several states have legalized or decriminalized cannabis use. Additionally, cannabis remains a commonly used substance worldwide (1). According to a 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, over 39 million people over the age of 12 reported the use of cannabis in the past year (2). According to a 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, cannabis is the most common illicit drug used with approximately 22.2 million users in a given month (3).
