Indigo carmine dye for detecting urinary track damage during vaginal surgery

Undetected ureteral and bladder injuries during gynecological surgery can results in morbidities and even death. During vaginal surgeries, detecting urinary track injuries can be difficult. The incidences of urinary tract injuries during hysterectomy for benign conditions with systematic cystoscopy have been reported. Vakili et al., [1] prospectively enrolled 471 women: ureteral injuries were observed in 1.7  % and bladder injuries in 3.6 %. Similarly, Ibeanu et al., [2] prospectively assessed 839 women: ureteral injuries were observed in 1.8 % and bladder injuries in 2.9 %.
