Practicum to Practice Program: Improve Nurse Recruitment and Assist Schools of Nursing while Decreasing Length and Cost of Nurse Onboarding
An innovative pre-hire clinical placement program offers nursing students an opportunity to select a 1:1 senior practicum placement and accept their first job as a registered nurse on that same unit, prior to the start of the final semester practicum course of an entry-to-practice nursing program. This placement program provides a competitive recruiting strategy for a regional health system, a desired level of autonomy for nursing students, decreased orientation costs, assistance to schools of nursing by offering senior practicum sites, and increased recruitment of new graduate nurses during a critical nursing shortage in the United States.
