Short-term inulin supplementation comparably alters short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production in healthy and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) subjects
Rationale: The intestinal microbiota composition is altered in COPD but we previously did not observe differences in SCFA production, i.e. beneficial metabolites mainly produced through microbial fiber fermentation. The response of SCFA production to fiber supplementation has not been studied in COPD.
