Intermediate science knowledge predicts overconfidence

Trends Cogn Sci. 2023 Nov 28:S1364-6613(23)00282-6. doi: 10.1016/j.tics.2023.11.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLackner et al. found science overconfidence peaks at intermediate levels of knowledge. Those with intermediate knowledge also hold the most negative attitudes toward scientists. In doing so, they provide a novel measure of overconfidence that measures the tendency to give incorrect answers as opposed to answering, 'I don't know'.PMID:38030533 | DOI:10.1016/j.tics.2023.11.003
