Interview with Rev. Deanna Hollas, Gun Violence Prevention Coordinator Presbyterian Peace Fellowship
I am a native Texan from a family of hunters. Guns were normalized in my childhood home and the rural agricultural community where I was raised. I then went to Texas A&M for college where many of my classmates served in the military after graduation. Because guns were normalized for me, I didn't think much about guns or gun laws until 2016 when Texas passed a law allowing guns on college campuses. Our oldest daughter was a student at Texas Tech at the time and I saw how her friends and roommates reacted to the law — which I now know is exactly how the law intended.
