Why 43.5% of Brazilian women with systemic sclerosis have an abnormal 6-min walk distance? The implication of parity

We read with great interest the recent article titled “Reference value for the 6-min walking distance in women with systemic sclerosis considering the impact of muscle strength” (de Oliveira Saraiva et al., 2023). We found very inspiring the establishment of a reference equation for the 6-min walking distance (6MWD) in women with interstitial lung disease related to a systemic sclerosis (ILDss) as it accounts for the effects of muscle and lung function (de Oliveira Saraiva et al., 2023). The 6-min walk test (6MWT) serves as a standardized, practical, and useful assessment of submaximal exercise capacity, particularly in ILDss aiding in disabi lity evaluation (Deuschle et al., 2011) and the prediction of pulmonary arterial hypertension (Rizzi et al., 2015).
