Response to letter to the Editor re Reducing Costs of Referrals for Non-neonatal Circumcision in Florida Medicaid Population

The authors concur that in an asymptomatic child the decision for circumcision is not the “surgeon’s choice.” Neonatal circumcision remains controversial. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines state “Evaluation of current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks; furthermore, the benefits of newborn male circumcisio n justify access to this procedure for families who choose it”.1 The decision for or against neonatal circumcision is one made by the families.
