56.3 Removing Barriers and Expanding Regional Access Through Collaborative Care in Community Pediatrics

The Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) in primary care has been shown to reduce disparities and improve access to quality mental health care. For CoCM to be effective, program developers must understand local resources and what is achievable given contextual factors present in primary care practices. To this point, a significant number of practicing pediatricians still work in small, independent practices, that operate like small businesses that face unique barriers to implementation of CoCM. Implementation of CoCM may require adaption of model elements to achieve programmatic objectives.
