Evaluation of the intra- and inter-reliability of injury classification in Australian rugby union using video analysis

Introduction: Since the publication of a consensus statement in 2007, injury mechanism has been consistently collected. Rugby Australia developed the Australian Rugby Injury Surveillance System (ISS) aligned to the consensus. Injury surveillance systems are essential tools to collect information about the situation of injuries in sports. However, inconsistent applications of definitions, misapplication of coding the injury categories or recall bias, can appear. Recent evaluations have revealed that some injury mechanism information is not identified, which raises questions about the data's validity.
