Adolescents with patellofemoral pain do not exhibit altered gait characteristics

Introduction: Patellofemoral pain often commences in adolescence, persists into adulthood, and is associated with reduced quality of life and decreased participation in physical activity. In adults, biomechanical factors such as peak hip adduction and knee extensor torque have been linked to elevated patellofemoral joint load and pain. Little is known about the biomechanical features of patellofemoral pain in adolescence, despite mounting evidence the condition occurs early in life. The aim of this research was to examine whether adolescents with patellofemoral pain exhibit biomechanical characteristics commonly proposed to be associated with or contribute to patellofemoral pain.
