Strengthening the case for BMP inhibition as a point of intervention for osteoarthritis

Although numerous osteoarthritis (OA) risk factors have been characterized, and structural changes in joint tissues during OA are well documented, the complex pathological mechanisms regulating the onset and development of OA remain elusive. This conundrum is well exemplified by existing literature on the role of BMP pathways as both drivers of, and protectors against, OA pathology. Results detailed by Jaswal et al. in the current issue of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage add an important new chapter to this dialog.
