Improving Management of Absconsion in Forensic Mental Health Through Simulation-Based Education
Absconsion from mental health facilities has been a challenging issue, potentially creating adverse effects for patients, their families, and clinicians (Muir-Cochrane, Mosel, Gerace, Esterman,& Bowers, 2011). Absconsion of forensic mental health patients (FMHP), who had a conflict with the law and were legally mandated to a secure setting, can add to the perception of a threat to public safety (Wilkie, Penney, Fernane,& Simpson, 2014). The definition of absconsion varies within the literature.
