Effectiveness of Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML) Combined with Empathy Map on Prelicensure Nursing Students ’ Competency: A Quasi-Experimental Study
Health care is a highly stressful clinical environment with rapidly changing and unpredictable issues. Health care workers must have sound clinical reasoning skills (Campo et al., 2018) and empathy (Hunt, Denieffe,& Gooney, 2019). The clinical learning environment significantly develops nursing students' professional competence (Pitk änen et al., 2018). Debriefing is defined as "facilitated or guided reflection in the cycle of experiential learning" (Fanning& Gaba, 2007). Empirical evidence validates the importance of reflective debriefing discussions in clinical learning (Dreifuerst, 2011; ; Knobel, Overheu, Gruessing, Juergensen,& Struewer, 2018) and, in conjunction with effective advocacy-inquiry technique and analogic reasoning, systemic debriefing can foster successful debriefing (Raemer et al., 2011).
