Risk of Chronic Systemic Inflammation and Disease Disparities in the LGBTQ+ Community

We have endured a seemingly ever-expanding chronic disease health crisis over the last several decades. While the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic transiently lessened the world ’s focus on chronic disease prevention and management, the chronic disease health crisis remains. In fact, the increase in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic may ultimately further accelerate chronic disease incidence and prevalence. We have known for some time that dispari ties exist in health trajectory and chronic disease risk, with underserved communities and under-represented individuals bearing a far greater burden; COVID-19 outcomes have further shown these disparities.
