The Unrealized Potential of the Reg-ent ENT Clinical Data Registry

Patient safety and quality improvement (QI) are key foci of health care reform and critically important elements in the patient care continuum. Despite sophisticated systems for electronic data capture, the ability to accurately and meaningfully measure quality using actionable, evidence-based metrics continues to hamper efforts to improve care delivery and outcomes, even as the US Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services (CMS) have expanded the role of value-based payment systems. Because measuring the quality of care processes known to impact patient outcomes is critical to QI and health services research, there is a pressing need to “improve the quality of measuring quality.”
